Innovation Sprint

Rapidly developed cutting-edge ideas

15 robotics and automation companies from across Denmark recently gathered to take part in a special two-day idea competition “Robotics Innovation Sprint”. Here end users, suppliers and integration companies had the chance to pitch their tech ideas to the leading global manufacturing corporation LINAK.

Two-day Innovation Sprint

LINAK explores new automation ideas

Over the past 12 years, LINAK has worked intensely with automating their production lines and recently they decided to look into finding ideas to strengthen their Danish production setup, enhance their competitiveness and secure greater geographical independence for their production sites. This is where Innovation Sprint, facilitated by Odense Robotics, came into play.

Innovation Sprint took place over a two-day period this spring at the LINAK headquarters in Southern Jutland and provided the companies with the opportunity to 1) showcase their technology or 2) engage with LINAK management and specialists and learn about their processes and challenges, before brainstorming and developing new ideas.

Pitches

Innovative solutions in a short timespan

CS Electric, Slagelse Engineering, AD Control, Letech Machines, Robotool, Cestek and Technicon took part in Robotics Innovation Sprint, where each company received individual feedback based on their pitches and multiple presentations. The latter had the following to say about the Sprint:

We consider the Innovation Sprint to be an optimal format providing a tense focus on delivering high-quality solutions to complex industrial processes within a sharp deadline. It’s an ideal platform for combining know-how, innovative mindset and the latest within cutting-edge technologies in order to combat specific challenges in the manufacturing industry,” says Mads Sigsgaard, Key Account Manager at Technicon.

Innovation and engagement

Pitches and competences

Besides the pitches and idea creation, the Sprint also consisted of a “house of competences”, where suppliers could showcase their technology and services. Here Hans Følsgaard, SICK, Festo, United Components, Universal Robots, 4Tech Robotics, FactBird and Omron Electronics could demonstrate and discuss their tech and how to incorporate it within LINAK as well as offer the tech to be included in the solutions provided by the participants working on the innovation cases.

“We found the Sprint to be an ideal opportunity for robotics and automation companies to think innovatively and creatively outside the box over two inspiring and intensive days. At Omron Electronics, we believe it important to strike a balance between process improvement and innovative risk-taking to develop new ideas and initiatives.
The Sprint aligns perfectly with our values of challenging ourselves and being pioneers in creating inspiring solutions for the future. Thanks to Odense Robotics and LINAK for hosting this fantastic event, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration,” says Kenneth Ranzau, Key Account Manager at Omron Electronics.

The 15 participants left the Sprint having made new connections and discussed new solutions for manufacturing, and LINAK was presented with new ideas, which might be relevant for their future business.

“Robotics Innovation Summit is an ideal platform for robotics and automation companies to learn more about manufacturers’ automation needs while also working intensely and focused on a shared goal. The brainstorming and communication throughout the process was tremendous and the companies really dived into the set challenges,” says Dennis Svane Christensen, Business Development Manager at Odense Robotics’ Sonderborg Hub, who helped organise and facilitate the Sprint.
